At the Hengqin World Bay Area Forum (Dec 13-14, 2023), Professor Hu Weixing, Dean of Social Sciences at University of Macau, highlighted the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) unique advantages as a world-class manufacturing hub with comprehensive supply chains and exceptional infrastructure. Unlike New York’s financial dominance or San Francisco’s tech innovation, the GBA excels in industrial capacity while needing to strengthen international capital markets and R&D capabilities.
As a key western GBA city, Macao should leverage its global tourism appeal and Portuguese-speaking country connections to enhance regional collaboration, particularly with Zhuhai, while contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative.
