The “Macau New Neighbourhood” project is emerging as a key platform for cross-border livelihood integration between Macau and Hengqin. As Macau residents increasingly settle in Hengqin—with over 8,900 holding residence permits and 7,400+ utilizing healthcare—rebuilding social networks and adapting to local services remain challenges. Macau’s grassroots associations, traditionally vital in delivering social services, face hurdles due to differences in mainland policies, public trust, and regulatory frameworks.
